Experimental Electronic Music
Highlighting hundreds of releases in 2024 (and allowing December to set in), we’ve compiled a list of our favorites along with links to their corresponding Igloo reviews and release pages. Since the lists are arranged alphabetically by artist—and a snapshot of tracks are featured in our Soundcloud playlist along with selected Bandcamp tracks and random artwork selections—there are, as usual, no winners or runners-up.
All I can find to explain what is here are endless crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and motivations, a dark noir album filled with harmonic textures and creeping reverbs.
What is the difference between abandoned and forsaken? Dark tension, pounding under sustained horror and tension. This goes on forever. We are tourists here, and can go at any time. Peering into the darkness, we linger.
This mysteriously cinematic ambient body of slowly moving pieces is mentally transportive and representative of a contemplative journey in unknown vastness and in the depth of the subconsciousness.
Of all the terrifying monsters that space exploration has brought to humankind, what we do to our own species is by far the greatest horror. We have a dark bloody habit of taking vengeance on our own kind.
The temple here is made of plano-convex mudbrick, not fixed with mortar or cement, so that the spirits of the dead (etimmu) can seek absolution for their unknown sins, or find resolution of the idea that one can transgress a divine prohibition without knowing it.
The terror is stronger. I hear pounding. The black waters shift in and out, always moving. Everything has changed, darkness has fallen. There is a new order. Everything moves except me.
I am talking about dark endless caverns, chaos, and death. The sound just stays there. Some find sleep here. Some find an endless nightmare. I can only tell you what happened to me and why I never came back. I stayed in there.
The sound is eternal and not coming from a source that is located in a position that could be close by. It just floats up […]
I can’t be sure of the difference. Maybe that is only strange laughter coming from down below as the rescue ship speeds with us inside, and the music really takes off. At the end, things are morphing rapidly and I remember some rare small parts of everything after all.
This album provides restful background music that could be enjoyed while waiting for sleep to take you, with a dark and spooky atmosphere.
