Gdanian :: Induction (Cryo Chamber)

The signals swerve, trapped forever between electronic space ambient and interplanetary sci-fi. The final chapter tells the tale, but the various preceding tracks of galactic movie magic theme soundtracks also are each and all awesome.

Lush atmospheric dramatic drone soundscapes

Cinematic dark ambient electronics, including intercepted deep-space radio signals from the distant walls of I don’t know, some decaying deep desert post-apocalypse cavern in a tense and unnerving future. The ominous story seems to come from afar, when we were beginning to make contact with our new overlords, but long after establishing our prized distant colonies. The signals swerve, trapped forever between electronic space ambient and interplanetary sci-fi. The final chapter tells the tale, but the various preceding tracks of galactic movie magic theme soundtracks also are each and all awesome. The presentation features stellar production, lush atmospheric dramatic drone soundscapes, and it comes with a 12 page booklet for CD and digital download. This disturbing futuristic epic message from the future was written, produced, and performed by Sergey Gdanian, with Simon Heath’s Artwork & Mastering, the booklet text and the vocals on track 8 (“The Prospect of Our Dismal Wonders (feat. Ruptured World)”) are by Alistair Rennie.

Sinistrous and minatory, “Arrival” (4:24) is dark and huge, a planet is stirring just before dawn. Tension constricts slowly opening up, and then… A big moment, something has become and everything has changed. The world returns to a dark and huge stillness in elegant washes of synth and field recordings. “Veins of the Planet” (5:18) follows. Deep inside the flow is a powerful force, not a pulse. Every moment the opening is growing wider, the capacity increases, the strength holds…

Until the fade. Technology constantly seeks restoration and is naturally opportunistic, seeking to expand into bigger presences, “Shield Emitter” (5:10) (feat. Tineidae)—Tineidae is currently based in Warsaw and is a project of Ukrainian electronic musician Pavlo Storonskyi. The signal is cautious and hopeful, there is a change when things energize. The scope constantly increases dramatically.

The signal is cautious and hopeful ::

Then the long slow fade takes over. “Strange Signals” (5:46) presents a very nervous entrance, the fog sparkles with layers of meaning. The chamber fills with chattering bubbles that have replaced the fog. More ominous messages flow past, messages that need interpretation, it is a curious accumulation, slowly fading into the darkness. “The Barrier” (4:34) is approaching slowly, and then it looms gigantically, like death. Darkness makes it expand. We might be underwater. Cautiously scouting the alien parameter, this track also easily captures, I don’t know, something about the impermanence of emotion.

Things get really dark. Slow and gigantic. Before long the danger is evident. Hidden complexity, “The Colony” (5:56). Anomalous night developments. Fade. Now for my favorite track:

“Main Block” (5:54) Hidden in the center, certain dark things simulate battle in the sky, eventually the weird enthronement transpires, bringing a clarity that feels eerie and surreal. It became much deeper than anticipated. Waiting room weird electronic journey. And now the Rosetta piece:

“The Prospect of Our Dismal Wonders” (6:40) (feat. Ruptured World)—Ruptured World is based in Scotland. I suspect that the original message comes from somewhere else and best speaks for itself:

“This is the Associate Director of the Ross 128 b Exoplanetary Colonial Mission, Dr Elliot Macrae. If you are listening to this recorded archive, you must know that we have departed from the Expeditionary Surface Control Terminal.

Upmost in our minds was that the colonial mission itself was born out of a necessity in response to the destructive influence of human beings on Planet Earth and their unique capacity for catastrophic self-harm.

We maintain a tentative hope that, one day, when we have absorbed and comprehended the intellectual conclusions of what we will learn, we may return to the hub of our species, with an aim to share the facts and insights such as we have acquired them.”
