V/A :: XVIII (Acroplane)

A powerful amalgamation detailing Acroplane‘s musical trajectory as they continue to scrape deep and jagged fissures into the terrain year after year.

On this feast commemorating their 18th birthday, Acroplane collect 18 tracks from the center of the dark electronics sonic spectrum. The cross-section of multi-talented musicians is astounding. Honed in and at the top of their craft, each artist delivers focused, innovative, and sandblasted rhythms, which may be the best representation of their signature soundscapes to date. Featuring next-level electronic distortion, ranging from the blistering funk of Adapta’s “Melted Face” to the shuffling breaks of Anodyne’s “Diffusion,” to the rough percussive noise of Diasiva’s “Nowruz,” and the shattered electro of Neil Landstrumm’s “Broonies Back,” XVIII is quite a bit to absorb in one sitting.

Each track follows a unique path through darker experimental corridors, culminating in Somatic Responses’ drill’n bass shards of “Liminal Squabble,” Monolog’s rapid-fire bass sludge of “Revive Dive,” and Mute-Tiny’s serene dystopian synth-world of “Basal,” which elevates the label to the highest plateau overlooking an expansive and blurred horizon. XVIII, as a result, is a powerful amalgamation detailing Acroplane’s musical trajectory as they continue to scrape deep and jagged fissures into the terrain year after year.
