Robotic rhythms and relentless blips
This intense trio of tracks, though brief, pulses with enough energy to sustain an entire album. Beyond the Black Hole’s debut (Protonic Flux) is the result of years of live performances, with Renzo Gorrio and Richard Haig crafting a sound that ventures just beyond electro’s rugged edges. Their heavy, robotic rhythms and relentless blips stretch endlessly in every direction. The title track delivers a sonic barrage, its vocodered, sandblasted pulse glitching in all the right places, while “Self-Destrukt” leans into a more subdued acidic warble. The underground ride culminates with “Blast Radius,” a gritty synth-driven motif swirling with technoid flutters, enveloped in darkness. Protonic Flux delivers a relentless dark-electro sci-fi journey that’s brief but absolutely worth exploring.
