Keosz :: Neven OST (Cryo Chamber)

A welcomed return with a key and immediately transportive album in the subterranean, ethereal and dark-ambient galaxy to start the year in timeless beauty.

Monolithic drone-based electronic orchestrations

Keosz used to be one of my all-time personal favorite projects coming from the modern days of ominous dark-ambient temples next to Shrine, Monocube, and a few others. This preference comes from the fact that I perceive and appreciate enveloping, amorphous, and monolithic drone-based electronic orchestrations. Here, the cinematic evocative effervescence is often sumptuously covered by an avalanche of poignant and fractured melodies with a somber if not melancholic palette of tone colors. Without being over productive, but with steady works and faithful to Cryo Chamber’s circle of new, veteran drone-scapers and experimental sound designers, Keosz successes to distinguish himself with daunting, alluring, enthralling, and innovative sound-tapestry, which sometimes culminate in one entrancing and otherworldly dimension.

This album makes no exception; after an ordinary but nevertheless appreciable first piece, it progressively rises from the surface with solid atmospheric pads and a highly vibrant emotional mood. Reaching a magnificent and splendid aura that will enthrall the listener as in the vertiginous hymnic and elegiac “Parents.” The modern classical and minimalist facet of the project is put a step further with the presence of soothing piano moments and slumbering then ecstatic string patterns; the whole thing merged in a discreet dub-stepping electronic shimmer as in “Meadow.”

More atonal, nightmarish, and menacing dark ambient experimentations also punctuate the album, as in the cyber-post human interlude “Whitelight” or “Stalking.” Keosz appears to be the most singular and unmissable project signed by Cryo Chamber; or at least among the finest. A welcomed return with a key and immediately transportive album in the subterranean, ethereal and dark-ambient galaxy to start the year in timeless beauty.
