Kaleidoscope reveals more hidden dimensions and interpretations of the marvelous world around us, an autobiographical journey through the creative life itself, cyclical rather than linear in form. The feeling is enriching and complex, more listening unlocks more new territories.
Here, looped beats, sharp-panned synth lines, sparkling sampled piano, and glitchy “post-rock” electronica remind me of the early n5MD releases from the likes of Lights Out Asia, Epic45, and Near The Parenthesis.
Fragile Peaks is a deeply engaging (in the sense of the quality of engagement being ‘deep’) slow burner, though that descriptor might misrepresent the intensity of a piece that, fire-wise, is more of a smoulder—a low-lit one at that.
Intentionally multidirectional, incorporating a lot of influences and original elements to deliver something catchy, unsettling, and moodily atmospheric, “[channel]” encompasses a punchy doom-laden hypnotic dancing trip punctuated by ominous ambient textures of sci-fi cinematic quality.
A welcomed return with a key and immediately transportive album in the subterranean, ethereal and dark-ambient galaxy to start the year in timeless beauty.
Tides tells a story, has a vision, and is not just a collection of works as so many albums fell foul of.
