Tempus Remixes (Mute, 2023) is a collection of four remixes from Pole’s Tempus (Mute, 2022), featuring Sleaford Mods, Rrose, and Alessandro Cortini.

An anxious air

Tempus Remixes (Mute, 2023) is a collection of four remixes from Pole’s Tempus (Mute, 2022). Three versions of the track “Stechmück” and one of the title track. Sleaford Mods works the material into one of the duo’s snippier, snarling sparse rants. Track 2 is another version of “Stechmück,” a variation on the same track from the original, working the track into a jerking, wailing paranoid version, heavy on dub beat pushing the rhythm. Rrose’s version speeds things up, playing samples of the track against each other creating an anxious air from the swirling elements and insistent drums as the track forms into an oily, dark soundscape. Alessandro Cortini’s “Tempus” remix develops slowly building rhythmic forms from Pole’s dark materials into a melancholic number, half meditation, half lament.
