Dark electronic data fields
A wide-angle lens of focussed, reduced, and dark electronic data fields is examined on SEISMOS in Pietro Luca Congedo’s (also known as Stone Leaf) Detroit Underground debut. As “[P] WAVE “Encounter”” delivers a more surreal glitch entanglement, the floating modular soundtrack opener of “BACKGROUND NOISE “Lucid Dreaming”” sets the stage for an unearthly adventure. The ambient spheres and blistered electrical pulses of SEISMOS (from the Greek σεισμός) keep everything in motion, even though it feels ethereal and fragmented throughout.
When you consider the timid industrial texture of “[S] WAVE “Subtext,” or the blips and bleeps drone of “[R_L] WAVE ”Anti Worlds,” it is clear that Stone Leaf has quite a bit to display, without ever biting more than he can chew. Closing with the much darker yet “[P_S_R_L] WAVE “Signs of New Worlds,” these are consistently powerful and sandblasted percussive treasure troves. Embedded with captivating atmospheres, Stone Leaf cogently creates subdued experimental electronic flutter that we’ll continue to revisit again and again.
SEISMOS is available on Detroit Underground December 20, 2024. [Bandcamp]
