Necessary Unfold draws together the collective consciousness of contemporary Greek electronic music in their Various Artist label launch collection Part Time Archivists / Part Time Forgers. Coalescing electro, breaks, acid sensibilities, and IDM intent, we get 12 sublime Saturday-night anthems primed for a proper underground, word-of-mouth gathering. Summer radiates through the set.
DaFou’s new release on Buenos Aeros’ Cyclical Dreams arrives under the title Berlin Transit, and the Berlin nod is more than cosmetic—it signals a clear pull toward a Schulzian mode of expression. What unfolds across more than 100 minutes is a sustained act of musical articulation, rooted in a tightly wound compression of intention from the outset.
Lost Hope Society doesn’t deal in easy optimism. Instead, it locates hope as a kind of underlying signal—constant, even when masked by noise. Like Midsommar, it uses brightness to reveal shadow, and in doing so, turns discomfort into clarity.
Two of my favorite sonic sculptors converge as F~M, alias of Roel Funcken and Jeroen Bax (aka exm), shaping Fose into four extended chapters that warp and reassemble rhythmic glitch fragments, threaded with fluid collisions of bass pressure, flickering bleeps, and meticulous sound design.
The resulting experience of Sorry I Didn’t Realize feels untethered from trends or nostalgia bait, instead standing defiantly above contemporaries as both tribute and evolution — easily deserving placement near summit of any Best of 2026 conversation.
OS ZA CR AA NC stands as an immense body of experimental electronic excavation — a sprawling surge of shattered atmospheres, industrial IDM pressure, broken-beat deconstruction, and invasive sound design that engulfs senses without pause.
Together, these tracks form a succinct pairing, orbiting just beyond cerebral breakbeat fragments and electronic flickers—an intense sonic link that stretches rhythm toward its outer limits.
The downtempo chug is still there, but it’s been processed through decades of IDM evolution, filtered through the same sensibility that informed Beans’ abstract hip-hop work and Schematic’s experimental roster. DL Poisons’ unsettling in the way that the best experimental electronic music should be, familiar enough to feel grounded, strange enough to keep you off balance.
Clouth threads precision engineering through moments of volatility, never allowing complexity to collapse into clutter. Each track on Cicada feels both autonomous and interlocked, contributing to a broader arc that moves from propulsion to release.
The nostalgia embedded within Nothing Under Heaven is particularly striking. It is not tied to any singular past, nor does it lean on sentimentality. Instead, it manifests as a kind of emotional afterimage. A sense of having felt something deeply without being able to fully recall its shape. This gives the music a haunting familiarity, as though it is reflecting something the listener already carries but has not yet named.
There’s something quietly affecting on Shatter Marbles. It doesn’t demand attention so much as it lingers, inviting reflection. What emerges is less a revival and more a reimagining of ambient IDM’s early foundations—something that doesn’t stay fixed, but moves just out of reach, leaving behind a hazy sense of familiarity that’s likely to return long after the final notes fade.
