Neutrino Effect (aka Jon Sanford) continues to explore rugged post-industrial rock and emotive sonic shadows on his latest release for Labile. Driven by the hard-edged instrumental fury of They Shall Bring Death Upon Us, the album delivers its message through pounding drums, surging guitar, and bass lines that grind through dense drone passages. There are echoes of Bitcrush, Haujobb, My Bloody Valentine, and Sheepscar Light Industrial in this collision of heavy industrial, noise, dense electronics, and ambient undercurrents, yet Sanford shapes these elements into something distinctly his own. Vast, disorienting soundscapes unfold across a visceral collection of aggressive, intricately layered tracks, where distorted rhythms lock into place, synths are pushed to their limits, and open sonic expanses stretch into uneasy territory.

Sanford notes that “much of the record grew out of extreme insomnia and the way it bends perception: fragmented sleep, lucid dreaming, hallucinatory imagery, derealization, and stretches where the line between waking and dreaming became impossible to find. None of it is recreated literally. Instead, it became the album’s architecture.” That sense of dislocation runs through the record, not as a literal depiction of sleeplessness, but as an underlying force shaping its fractured arrangements and shifting sonic contours. Guitar serves as a central thread throughout They Shall Bring Death Upon Us, reinforcing its industrial-rock foundation without overshadowing the electronics. Instead, it cuts through the mix as a defining presence, driven by distortion, rhythmic decay, and patterns that accumulate weight as they unfold. Each track carries its own character, yet the pieces feel interconnected, trading tension and momentum like neighboring structures bound together by a common pulse.

Here, shoegaze, industrial, noise, and dark ambient converge in a constant cycle of fracture and reconstruction, collapsing into one another before surging back with renewed force. Neutrino Effect delivers a formidable album built on abrasive detail, bruising live-band energy, and an emotional undercurrent that cuts through the machinery. They Shall Bring Death Upon Us stands as a commanding fusion of industrial rock and electronics, its dense, hard-edged sound revealing new layers with every return. Standouts “Circle of Trees,” “Satellite Failure,” “Death Hugr,” “Somnabulist” and the heavy-hitting, slow-motion lava flow of closure “Cydonia.”
