Vapored Angels‘ relentless assault of harsh electronics and tortured instrumentals propels itself to our list of the best releases of 2024.
Pulling us into its cavernous void
Unusual yet alluring noises start to encroach on us, accompanied by an industrial electronic and atmospheric whir that gradually takes shape and pulls us into its cavernous void. On Vapored Angels, Omaha-based musician Jon Sanford (also known as Neutrino Effect) pushes soundtrack manifestations, burnt synth soundscapes (“The Morrigan”), and raw sound sources to the furthest limits. The seven tracks feature exquisite noise entwined in a web of pseudo-shoegaze guitar strains with the might of a 400,000 lb. locomotive and an old-school industrial flair reminiscent of Front 242 (“Caim”). Bitcrush influences can also be heard on the restless beauty of “Underneath The Pines,” which features dark and eerie musical patterns. “A.V.W.A.G.” is also a forceful track with illbient leanings and downtempo synth strands, while “Exsanguis Mors,” the concluding track, showcases a robotic glitch world gone completely haywire. Vapored Angels‘ relentless assault of harsh electronics and tortured instrumentals propels itself to our list of the best releases of 2024. Utterly captivating.
