Dragon :: Audio Denaturation EP (Ryu)
Fans of Richard Devine and Valance Drakes should take note of Dragon’s comprehensive blend of deep sound forms that pierce through the core of our planet.
Zeno van den Broek, HIIIT, Gagi Petrovic & Machines :: Relatum (Moving Furniture)
The broad and distinctive esotericism of Zeno van den Broek, HIIIT, Gagi Petrovic & Machines’ Relatum features what sound like field recordings and found sounds merging into one fractured listening experience. Yet it’s not what it seems.
Displacer :: The Witching Hour SE (The Crime League)
Displacer revisits this iconic record and brings some friends along to partake, creating a flowing and textural audio assault that represents the entire dark electronic music landscape, likely for another decade.
M.Cadoo & P.Stephan :: Pang of Being (Self Released)
But it’s not all splatter. Soaring synths pierce the darkness with moments of light reminding me to look for that light, follow it down the tracks even as metallic crashes continue to cascade into crumbling piles of rust.
Eric Schlappi :: Larval Beak EP (Concrete Collage)
The sheer magnitude of Larval Beak’s roughened overflows spills over five succinct tracks, yet manages to convey a powerful sonic panoramic within a brisk 20 minutes.
Minimum Sentence :: Russia EP (Burial Recordings)
All in all, the four tracks on the Russia EP certainly leave a positive impression. The noise is satisfying, and the way the pieces constantly move around makes them really engaging.
Belong :: Realistic IX (Kranky)
Belong’s return with Realistix IX is quite a success. They improve significantly on where they had left off and also make use of their noisy aesthetics, combining the two into a satisfying sonic collection.
Fennesz :: Venice 20 – 20th Anniversary Edition (Touch)
Venice is an album that continues to work extremely well, even after 20 years. The combination of lighter-sounding loops with sounds that are more distorted results in a complexity of tone and texture as this remastered version emphasizes.
Zságer Balázs :: Aqua Obscura (Free Sequence)
Built over long soundscapes, noisy field recordings and hypnotizing harmonic clusters, Aqua Obscura completely takes over our attention, swimming on a magical journey that directly touches our inner consciousness.
V/A :: Quality Time Volume 4 (Bonding Tapes)
Quality Time Volume 4 slices a deep cross-section through the label’s unique sonic vision; to encapsulate a myriad of abstract electronic music structures and blend them seamlessly in this fourth volume. It might also be fitting to find more quality time and head back to Bonding Tapes’ earlier volumes again.
