Somatic Responses :: Rhinog Fawr’ (Heol Ddu)

The scraping, noise-drenched slabs in which John Healy (one half of Somatic Responses) is able to craft are astounding.

Densely layered ambient sound worlds

Somatic Responses continues to push densely layered ambient sound worlds filled with decaying structures and crumpled drone-scapes—much like the cover artwork depicts so well. The scraping, noise-drenched slabs in which John Healy (one half of Somatic Responses) is able to craft are astounding. And yet while there’s a plethora of buzzing soundtracks as far as the eyes can see, time is stretched to a point where distant panoramas and ethereal shapes begin to form and fade away. Melodies begin to coalesce, and again fade away. Perhaps a homage to life and its ebb and flow, or in this case peaks and valleys; Rhinog Fawr’ is a contemplative escape revealing a myriad of organic and inorganic matter in one fell swoop.

Rhinog Fawr’ is available on Heol Ddu. [Bandcamp]
