Gritty, flickering, atmospheric haze is in full effect—dystopian and replete with wide open spaces, vacant echoes and rusty shards—109ResCloud is a dense, industrial-synth/drone album with high production value and a contagious structural focus.
Long-term Somatic Responses moniker from the Healy brothers (John and Paul) continue to unearth a myriad of underground disturbance. Whereas one might trigger SR as the beat-smearing, hard-edged, apocalyptic industrial-electronic duo, 109ResCloud is stripped down to the bone, and reportedly recorded in one take.
The mechanical, synth-infested, modular buzz is in full-force, however, SR’s sound design is much less percussive in this recording. That is not to say that there aren’t any tangible bits to grasp at. In fact, a few punch-press beats do appear sparingly, but SR have more than crafted a sonic sculpture.
