The challenging art of technical electronics bleeds rhythmic flows that may or may not hit the sweet spot for its audience. It’s unfortunate but sometimes sound design remains sound design unless the human spirit is able to control, direct or inject it with that certain something. On that note, there’s also an artform to knowing when to release music—it’s a craft that is just as important as the creative process. While most feel the inclination to unveil their sonic manifests early in their development, some are revealed as extended players to tease the ears as a handful of tracks are deemed complete. hosmOz (aka Belgian-born Adrien Cornet) fits in the later category; that fuzzy spot where there’s not much more to add or subtract from the complex compositions. And even though hosmOz holds newcomer status, it’s not all glitch, bleeps and distortions on this four track debut. Crusted digital wires interact, unfold, contort and expand amongst a myriad of effects. But underneath these abstracted fragments is a blend of collapsed organization as if the rugged beatwork were set ablaze.
The title track sheds this dynamic as does “Zarnica”—its sped up second cousin. Acidic downpours and buzzing vocal clips frolic among industrial electronic waveforms. “Srom” delivers an electro bent as it slithers next to danceable quarters—an ever expanding roller coaster of beats and bass. The closing “Remajak,” embarks on early acid electro-techno contortion and brings with it a certain atmospheric echo.
