Anatoly Grinberg & Mark Spybey :: Crop-Dusting (Ant-Zen)

Crop-Dusting explores immersive, sharp, thick, and heavily distorted drone clusters that work on psychoacoustic levels. Micro tonalities and abrasive layers are blended with electronic scintillations and massive, loud blocks of sound textures.

Mark Spybey is one of the talented sound artists behind the cult experimental, challenging, post-industrial project Zoviet France and leading member of the groundbreaking Dead Voices on Air, known for masterfully-crafted soundscapes of deeply moving waves, dynamic processed timbres, and noises (albums like How Hollow Heart are considered as standards by many). In the context of experimental-industrial music, his contribution is essential, and his reputation forged through decades next to other key artistic personalities such as Robin Storey, Jeff Greinke, Conrad Schntizler, KK Null, Nigel Ayers, David Philip Jackman (Organum). His name is often credited in collaborative efforts notably with James Plotkin, Ambre.

In this new joint release Mark Spybey teams up with the multi-talented Anatoly (Tokee) Grinberg, fellow co-member of Dead Voices on Air, a Russian electronic music producer, sound engineer, trained at the Israeli School of Sound in Tel Aviv, co-founder and official mastering engineer of Dope Records; he consistently crafts immersive electronic soundscapes with precision and depth. Separately—or in duet—they released a handful of albums for the highly acclaimed Ant-Zen; a long-standing benchmark imprint featuring some the finest industrial music with a prevailing power electronics edge and sometimes beat laden, post-techno minimal grooves.

Crop-Dusting explores immersive, sharp, thick, and heavily distorted drone clusters that work on psychoacoustic levels. Micro tonalities and abrasive layers are blended with electronic scintillations and massive, loud blocks of sound textures. Some gritty then furiously enthralling ghostly loops, surreal voice manipulations, and soul-crushing noises also come to the mix as in a few austere and enigmatic tracks. Repetitive micro-kinetic electro pulses also enhance the musical content.

Crop-Dusting is a seriously complex, adventurous noise album with movements of ambiguous beauty that drill under a dense wall of sounds. Recommended for fans of thisquietarmy, Kevin Drumm, Nocturnal Emissions, and Carl Von Hausswolff.
