An arsenal of imagery to evoke emotion

Los Angeles-based producer Snakes Of Russia returns with a new single titled My Arms Bend Back through the forward-thinking label Errorgrid. Released in November 2021, this 2-track release, composed of the original track and the XIOLA version, is a powerful sample of the artists’ dexterity and skills in sound design to catalyze one’s mind in creating an arsenal of imagery to evoke emotion with ease. The original piece’s constant slow-paced beats accompanied by horns, strings, reversed textures and glitch details bring much tension to the listener. As the title suggests, it would serve as the perfect soundtrack for a freakish daunting scene from a David Lynch film. The XIOLA version, a remix by the own musician, continues to cause discomfort, but even though the beat/bassline combo is dirtier and the chosen background synth and pad resemble a dystopian futuristic world, the uprising notes in the melody bring more of a hopeful feel. An essential track for these crazy uncertain times we’re living in.
