Serge Geyzel :: Departures EP (brokntoys)

An electro-industrial backwash infusion

Seamlessly articulating a focused voice with raw machinery and ravaged synths, Russia’s Serge Geyzel unleashes darker rhythms on Departures that are as rugged as they are fluid. The viscosity and low-end turbulence surrounding each track exhibits an electro-industrial backwash infusion. And if it wasn’t already known, Geyzel’s recognizable style maintains its hardened outer shell while detailing glitchy and acidic stretches where sonic mayhem and syncopated beatwork flutter. “Enot” exudes a splintered, aggressive tone and hypnotic jungle rumbling as the title track delivers saccharine twists and crunchy, apocalyptic drums and with a calming atmosphere. The mechanical pulse of “Slowly Downwards” and its screeching bass echoes are absolutely intoxicating as “In Flights” brings blissful acid swirls and a wobbling electro spell. Departures is a packed four track sonic attack of the senses, and pushes itself to the top of our best EP’s list for 2021.
