Sparkling light crystals over saturated instrumental workouts
Serge Geyzel has steered through a few genres, most notably with a penchant for abstract electro, and his latest for brokntoys, feels much more lively with densely packed percussion and fluid melodic loops keeping us fully entertained. Soft pads and bouncy electronica in full force; beat juggling through a half-dozen pieces of sublime rhythms, tracks like “Don’t Know What You Are Thinking” and the title track pierce through fluttering grooves that Serge Geyzel fully controls. “Observations” meanders through a maze of saccharin synths, its downtempo shadows full of life as “Noizette” dissolves ambient threads over in an abundance of audible data. The way that this EP is able to cast sparkling light crystals over saturated instrumental workouts—reference “Soon Now”—proves once again that Geyzel’s ability to bend sound shapes is nothing short of astounding. It’s also a pleasure to see brokntoys inviting the talented soundsmith to their roster.
