Randomform :: Furtherfield (Detroit Underground)

Sorin Paun, better known as Randomform (and a few other alias’) reveals Furtherfield for Detroit Underground, an ordered, determined, deep and dark exp-electro full length. Combining rhythmic, underground noise, some drama with aliens sounds, rotational movement and dramatic sweeps, Furtherfield can easily be a backdrop for a wild sci-fi space movie. The album is very dynamic and slightly dehumanized with a lot of rotational sputtering from every angle. Venturing into a place far from Earth, deep in a magnetic fractal, it also contains loopholes tucked away inside spacious wormholes.

While some track lengths extend beyond the 6-minute mark, a hybrid of human-alien beings forage in the darkness creating a full story within each audio snapshot. Starting with progressively slow crashes, the album picks up via minor scales along the way. Melodies span in the distance, electronics and harmonic notes weave back and forth as the aforementioned fractals shatter a bit more. Some rising backgrounds of destructive pops and clicks cycle into and out of phase as a persistent drama unfolds.

“Cylon Fracture” is glitchy and atmospheric noodling; an ultrasonic tweaking of odd pitch shifting creating a language meant for extraterrestrials. “Accd Trail” further elicits a psychedelic tail coming from lost trails where spaceships and alien creatures find comfort. “Hex Collider” is pure electronic mayhem of noisier elements and emotive sirens as “Entitled” contains a faster rotation of fluid sound-escapes. “Phi” is a rather short running piece displaying a deformed creature munching on sizzling cables as it takes a stroll. “Metaver” is a much more fluid slice of erratic technoid sounds bringing the album full circle just as “Field” renders its field recordings of synthetic elements and pondering moods.

Furtherfield is a baffling foray into otherworldly electronic distortion spanning an hours worth of bewildered experimentation.

Furtherfield is available on Detroit Underground.
