Microhm :: Les-1 (Detroit Underground)

Immersing otherworldly electronics with atmospheric textures and tones, Les-1 is a succinctly planned journey.

Les-1‘s core is made up of technologically driven, conceptual soundscapes that twist and turn at every opportunity. The audio tools were written in Max/MSP, which offers an expanding interactive visual patching environment that Mexican sound artist (Leslie García) navigates as Microhm. This EP, which consists of six pieces of fractured rhythms, vocal fragments, and pulse sounds, drives the message of classic futurism through faint background echoes. “The Collapse of a Satellite” is the perfect example of this oddly alluring soundscape; glitchy rhythms and crunchy percussion combine to create a multitude of eroded, almost tribal-like spheres.

Inspired by the Lincoln Experimental Satellite (LES-1), this conceptual EP was released in March 2023 and draws inspiration from the universe, with “HAL_9000” and its R2-D2 blips and bleeps flowing in an entirely unique trajectory while the closure (“Losing Signal”) drifts into the margins with its Autechrean composition; elastic bits’n beats maneuver through flickering noises. Immersing otherworldly electronics with atmospheric textures and tones, Les-1 is a succinctly planned journey.
