Marco Simioni :: FOMO (Detroit Underground)

Another incredibly surreal album of cutting-edge experimental electronic music from a gifted sound design artist.

A frenetic electronic attack on the senses

With glitchy electrical phasers spewing from every nook and cranny on FOMO, Marco Simioni’s most recent release for the eclectic Detroit Underground imprint is difficult not to draw comparisons with artists like Aphex Twin, Gimmik, and Richard Devine as they fine-tune their skewed sonic landscapes. These ten tracks feature low-flying soundscapes and sandblasted electro, acid, techno, and IDM for as far as the eye can see. On “Banshee,” Simioni pulls out all the stops in a frenetic electronic attack on the senses—the heavy sound cannon begins to fire.

The fear of missing out (FOMO), also known as the worry and dread of missing enjoyable and rewarding encounters involving acquaintances or friends, is now surrounded by an infusion of high fidelity data passages with 2021’s Phaneron in the rearview mirror, also featured on DetUnd.

While more subdued pieces like “Sagarmatha” and the shape-shifting conclusion of “Restorative Nostalgia (P10 Melody)” feel like an atmospheric swell upon our senses, “A Thousand Mirrors” and its saturated ambient undercurrent, ebbs and flows like a meandering set of waves crashing upon the shore. “Dot With Illumination” is a culmination of the albums’ intrinsic ability to capture emotionally charged particles and toss them miles up into the atmosphere—an absolute highlight. Another incredibly surreal album of cutting-edge experimental electronic music from a gifted sound design artist.
