What is the real appeal here though, is the conviction in the use of tempo and pace, as to not get too carried away with the under current of bass and bleeps that is within some of these ambient compositions.

Submerged in swollen drones and ambient soundscapes

Marco Simioni and Mattia Saviolo present a selection of unreleased tracks produced over eight years. A deep-dive into auras and spirits of a generation, insightful of tales titled Zeitgeist: Ambient Music from 2012 to 2020.

Culminating to 13-tracks over the course of an hour, for best part we are submerged in swollen drones and ambient soundscapes. Hypnotic pulses and waves motion you through these translucent worlds and formations. Often there is a melodic touch which tilts towards an IDM emotive. What is the real appeal here though, is the conviction in the use of tempo and pace, as to not get too carried away with the under current of bass and bleeps that is within some of these ambient compositions.

Both Marco and Mattia’s curation is certainly something to be acknowledged also. Whilst we forget to breath in these darker depths, on occasion and with a sense of vigor, we come up for air. The surface above is like that of a digi-tonal world presenting tasteful glitch manipulations—a moment passes where a slight adrenaline finds itself stirring; conjuring memories of watching a dystopian classic for the first time.

Particular favourites on this are “A Moment Looped In Time,” “Dion Dreams About Redemption,” “Dreamers Arrive Last,” and “Cognitive Distortion”—the latter featuring banrat, who appears on a couple of the other tracks too. In addition, for the visual flavor comes an experimental CG environment for the single “NDE” created by artist Esstro9, take some time to float through this glitched gallery with organism artefacts.
