Listening as if we didn’t know this was a remix project for Liminal Space (Rednetic, 2020) that we described as “Nostalgic, soothing, uplifting, and dreamlike electronic music for the soul,” the remixes muster just as much emotion and a sense of wonder, bewilderment, and nostalgia we’ve come to love about 4T Thieves. Ambient shifts, clicks, and clips of times gone by, each selection flows with downtempo strides—drawing you into its evolving psychedelic aura and punctuated by harmonious lo-fi rhythms drifting far away. Shadows of the original stems are carefully woven into a new fabric while still maintaining its warm, delicate and abstract nature about it. The faded tones and eroded Boards of Canada layers are all still here, yet somehow they are enriched and organically altered—as if shadows of its former self.
