Hazy dub-techno echoes
Gautham Garg and Paul Fleetwood (also known as Softlock) release five pliable tracks in just over thirty minutes as hazy dub-techno echoes pulse in the background. With “Zephyr,” which features flickering minimal technoid structures, and “Levitate,” containing more direct-punching 4×4 textures and tones, Softlock create ethereal soundscapes saturated with hypnotic deep-diving rhythms. The industrial slant of “Pressure,” the closing vintage Cybotron synth swell of “Skylight,” and the hardened rhythm of “Freefall” are refreshing contrasts to Second Wind‘s powerful draw. As a result, the duo seamlessly navigate complex coordinates of technique and technology, art and skill—weaving them into their own distinctive aural fabric.
