Punctuating the Future Sound of Denver
Denver, Colorado—known as the “Queen City of the West,” offers Steven Dermody and Paul Fleetwood a snapshot in time via this four track EP when they both lived there. The result is a baffling, punchy, and deep techno foray that doesn’t miss a beat. Its deep textures and emotive draw take us through tunnels of soundscapes and raw echoes, the grooves precisely crafted and stretched. “Silver Lake,” the highlight of the lot, delivers a magnetic synth pulse and rugged acid bass line carving a powerful sonic transmission. “Fradianni” delivers similar treasure troves of rhythmic techno and melodic charm; an impacting slice of life that pulls on the heartstrings. “Ardento” slips into funky terrain and glitchier manifests as it goes into hyper-drive with slight acid twitching as “Moonshine” is a more direct four-to-the-floor vision for the tmy duo—drawing on subtle reverberating beats and crunchy technoid flutter. Overall, a well-oiled and balanced EP punctuating the Future Sound of Denver.
