V/A :: Tangents (Kahvi Collective)

Tangents distills the finest in downtempo, sun-soaked electronic music, digging further into the chiseled sonic crevasses that each musician offers. Music certainly has the right to foster additional children, as Tangents is a welcomed home for its inhabitants.

Kahvi‘s long running mission is “to gather and provide free electronic grooves.” The online collective continues to cull some of the finest musicians from all sides of the planet and this collection was released on Netlabel Day 2017.

Tangents, described by the label as “the definitive collection of Boards Of Canada inspired tracks,” does just what it sets out to do. And as the title suggests, each track touches the outer edges of BoC’s kaleidoscopic circle and ventures into its own unique path. Sure, the fuzzy nostalgic downtempo influence prevails, and recognizable names like Faex Optim, PBS’73, 4T Thieves, and Selles stand out, however, artists like Rephazer, Cialyn, Sektor, Bellfriar, Polygon Ring, Berestez, and Hektagon are worth investigating even further. Adding to the BoC appeal, these ears were pleasantly drawn to the contributions of Kure, Lovekrafty and Ciaran Byrne.

Tangents distills the finest in downtempo, sun-soaked electronic music, digging further into the chiseled sonic crevasses that each musician offers. Some artists rely on ambient interludes, reversed loops, guitar strands, and distant sampled voices, as others are clear in their focus to drown the senses in emotional melodic bliss, punchy basslines, and eroded beats pulled from dusty synthesizers.

Music certainly has the right to foster additional children, as Tangents is a welcomed home for its inhabitants.
