ILUITEQ, influenced by Ancient Greek culture and Greek mythology, explores the idea of “Katà Métron,” emphasizing living in harmony with oneself and the natural world. ILUITEQ took notice of Lorenzo Montanà, who is well-known for his long career and partnerships with musicians such as Pete Namlook, was impressed by ILUITEQ’s textured approach to ambient music.
Katà Métron is a seven-piece suite of layered drones and tones that subtly expand for as far as the eyes can see with exposed atmospheric granules. As both musicians seamlessly coalesce their soundscapes—evidenced on “Apeiron” and “Noesi”—with moving patterns transcending time and space, the entrancing cinematic ambiance easily catches our attention and propels us forward.
The album delivers (in abundance) a beautifully hypnotizing blend of time-stretched acoustic Polaroids saturated with immense detail. The title track acts as a beacon of light, reassuring us that everything will be alright if we simply let it all in. However, there are also darker moments lurking in the mist (“Pneuma” and ending piece “Archè”) where structured glitch elements pulse and flicker carefully.
Katà Métron skillfully develops and reinforces the suggested objective of “living in harmony with oneself and nature,” a powerfully serene soundtrack we should all take notice of, and a surrounding sonic highlight for 2024.
