Vacuum Years inaugurates a new series that will see Cultivated Electronics boss Sync 24 (Phil Bolland) team up with some top names in Electro.

Rob Witschakowski must have given up food this year. Maybe it’s sleep. Or perhaps he’s adopted some sort of machine man hermit life. Something’s got to account for Jena artist’s productivity in 2014. Three records for Clone, an amazing and intense EP for Shipwrec, Solar One Music growing fat with goodness, a new project with Arne Weinberg just released and a number of remixes, Mr Witschakowski has had an electric twelve months. But who could be happy with just one collaboration?

Vacuum Years inaugurates a new series that will see Cultivated Electronics boss Sync 24 (Phil Bolland) team up with some top names in Electro, the first being…well you’ve guessed it. Spiking steel rods form the rhythm base of “Ten Years in Ten Weeks.” Toughened vocals echo, rising and falling against a wall of distortion and disdain. This is hard, even remorseless, a style which the Solar One co-founded simmers with bass for the remix. Snares are rounded before soothing synthlines descend for a multi-layered remake. But the clouds are not far, darkness looms as “Vacuum” takes hold. Weighty pads are lightened by countering chords, a light rain of samples mixing with bending bars for a heady and full sound. Bolland pares all back for the close. Sounds are stripped. Ghosting keys are isolated against a moonless backcloth for this refined end.

With this partnership quality was never going to be in doubt. In recent years Cultivated Electronics has cemented its position in Electronic music, releasing quality from machine musicians across the globe. Rob Witsch has gone even further, as The Exaltics the Jena artist has become one of the most exciting artists of 2014. But perhaps the most interesting aspect is to see more from CE boss Sync24. The head honcho has released a number of 12”s in the past, but now he appears to be getting more back to his producing roots with an upcoming EP for Central Processing Unit being case in point. An excellent first in what will undoubtedly be another ear-catching series from Cultivated Electronics.
