Sync 24 & Silicon Scally :: Jack Out EP (Cultivated Electronics)

I was perusing a rival—well rival might be a bit much—fellow, brother in arms(!) music blog the other day. All messing aside if you haven’t had a look at Pattern Burst I’d seriously recommend it, good solid Glasgow take on electronic music. What was I reviewing? Oh yeah. Anyway, electro is a favorite over at Pattern Burst and we’ve been reading from the same hymn sheet when it comes to the expansion of boundary pushing electro. One label that has been consistently shouldering the limits is Cultivated Electronics, Sync 24 nudging them even further with his latest series of collaborations.

Following on from his recent partnership with DMX Krew as MMT-8, the CE boss is teaming up with Silicon Scally for some fearsome electrofunk action. “Jack Out” makes its intent clear from the needle drop. Beats are cutting, slicing through thick banks of bass. Shockwaves ripple through speakers as the duo sharpen melodies into razor blade peaks. And once those menacing heights area reached the lads don’t seem to fancy coming down. Juddering bars a minced, pierced by prickly percussion and before being mangled with bass and samples in the sinister “Sine Vibes.” The flip is dedicated to two versions of “Clickjacking.” For the die-hards out there, fear not; all these “jack” references are not house-centered. Instead it seems that this machine music pair are, excusing the pun, hi-jacking the term, bringing it back to its body-jacking origins with some belting floor burners. And that’s what these last two installments are. Fast and fluid. The dub edit does away with the vocals, leaving the raw rancor of the machines to do the roaring.

This latest offering comes at electro from a different angle. True, it’s not a “brand new” angle, but it is one less explored. Rapid changes, cuts and growl from the turntable age are all present, as is that late night bite of cold. Keep it coming please!

Jack Out is available on Cultivated Electronics.
