Chrysalis flows in its transitional state of dysfunctional beauty; where time becomes a loop and all manner of chaos is somehow rolled into one cohesive state of fluctuating calm. A powerful debut, no question.
A transitional state of dysfunctional beauty
Darkened glitch worlds are explored on Riccardo Bazzoni’s debut for Errogrid’s Guest Artist series, a talented Italian sound designer who drafts pulse-driven sonic shifts and ethereal realms; the opener “Before The Light” displays these audible movements perfectly. Elsewhere you’ll find atmospheric and brooding ambient tones distracted by crunched rhythmic noises as evidenced on “Chorion.”
There’s an air of classic Lexaunculpt, Tangent, and Kattoo on display here; soundtracks to lost worlds filled with emotivly charged particles flutter about on tracks like “Breaking The Silence” where a sense of confusion is balanced by magnetized beatwork. As these smoldering bits and pieces unfold in the hundreds of thousands, “Loneliness” and the title track emit distracted and fizzing digital signal processes that eventually dither and fade away while the closing piece (“Dreaming Chaos”) lifts our spirit to the upper atmosphere as machines begin to break down and decompose.
This aptly-titled EP flows in its transitional state of dysfunctional beauty; where time becomes a loop and all manner of chaos is somehow rolled into one cohesive state of fluctuating calm. A powerful debut, no question.
