Random sequences of noise, texture and robotic mechanics
Dfaniks, a Mexican-born and NYC-raised electronic music producer and filmmaker, is back on Errorgrid with his third release, a vigorous 5-track EP called L3. This work is quite rich in terms of rhythm and layering details in sound design, while a main glitch aesthetic mark, resembling “Gantz Graf,” permeates through all tracks. As “Dyson” rolls on its own terms, progressing with random sequences of noise, texture and robotic mechanics which suddenly turn into a dark and dramatic music score led by bass strings, “Rosat” is a slow-paced glitch hop with metallic timbres and a delightful synth that depict beauty amid a chaotic futuristic society, like a flower blossoming in concrete. As the title suggests, “Cephalic” is a cerebral track that, at first, encompasses ethereal pads complemented by bird sounds, almost in a Parnassian atmosphere but with an aseptic synthetic feel, which gets contrasted with fast drilling beats that remind of Lexaunculpt’s early works. “Tosx” seems to dialog with the first track, in terms of broken music structure, while it leaves something suspended in the air, an unfinished business maybe. “Playheead” is an ever-changing moto continuum of chopped rhythm that surprises the listener bar after bar. A compelling release for Autechre fans.
