The mighty label Errorgrid is host to an incredible stable of artists working in a wide variety of genres, modes and formats but all reminiscent of “a darker sound of a present future” as the label motto goes. Their Quantized Realities – Technology compilation is a perfect record of the label’s roster and sound.

“Distorted Digits” by Synthmonk burns and throbs on wailing synth crescendos and clashing beats. “Socialize A Bit” by HHNOI grooves on a slow beat surrounded by metallic mosquitos while synths buzz and burble as we move through the soundscape. “In The Shadow of The Square” by Slaev is a slithering, serpentine affair where melody and bass wind around the thud and slam of percussion as pads play a dirge-like cadence. “Argentum” by Metaphorus works more soundscapes in their track, weaving beats around; instead of the other way around as is usually the case. “This Too Will Fade” by 0 0 0 works a groove into a slow electro-tinged walk on darkened city streets. “This Is Not Happening” by Iamyank works subtly at first with delicate tones that give way to an echoing beat. “What’s Left?” by So Much Blood is like the score for a Martian heist movie with the sharp, dark swells and latent toxic clouds of synth noise in the background. “Breath” by The Allegorist closes the comp with an arpeggiated synth rhythm underpinning angelic voices and swirls in the ether. A must for fans of heavy music and soundscapes.
