Printiig :: Walls (SUPERPANG)

Walls sees a diversification with its lean towards IDM in this release that again makes the label champions of representing the undergrounds best.

Hyper mentality within rhythmically diverse shuffles

Raw and packed with character—introducing Printiig an experimental electronic artist based out of India and their 12-tracks of angular exploration Walls out now via Italian label SUPERPANG. Set in Kolkata, Shubharun Sengupta (aka Printiig) combines hyper mentality within rhythmically diverse shuffles. These are patterns of excitement and challenge the senses.

Opener “Log,” introduces us to the tempo of footwork swapping out the forefront sub-bass drums for arpeggio galore. Throughout Walls, the tempo rarely subsides as we jostle through organized chaos, be it the wet breaks of “Sign,” or mind-bending expressions in “Drift.” We take a jazzy breather in “Crabs,” before gaining momentum again in a Rian Treanor-esque “Fell,” potentially named after a particular producer, perhaps? These sounds are futuristic and hold elements of cultures such as grime, only on a fast-forward function. It is all wonderfully exhilarating to listen to!

Single word titles also seem to be part of Printiig’s work, unpretentious but likely very practical—probably an insight into how methodical their mind really is.

Having previously released on The Collection Artaud which is headed up by Yu Miyashita (aka Yaporigami) it is great to see Printiig gather further recognition on SUPERPANG. Whilst the label has a particular focus on the experimental long form, noise, live coding, electro-acoustic, and drone with the roster including the likes of Merzbow, FAX, Guy Birkin, a0n0, Mariam Gviniashvili, and Tony Lugo—Walls sees a diversification with its lean towards IDM in this release that again makes the label champions of representing the undergrounds best.
