Hailing from India, Shubharun Sengupta occupies the Printiig moniker and Interhymns is a ten track behemoth of electrical activity and shrapnel beats. The distorted trajectory and misshaped rhythms seem to migrate towards fluid, if not aquatic grooves. The artwork, and accompanying PDF booklet, is a mesmerizing creative display that is both dizzying and intriguing; much like the music on offer.
“Bolt” attempts to organize the stream of chaotic flutter, its glitch field expansive and disjointed, it’s as if the artists’ intent is to shuffle strangely captivating noises and modular bits until there’s not much more that can be manipulated. “Rudder” projects its sonic discourse with swirling and scattered noises as “Chipped” dives straight into an Autechrean minefield; broken rhythmic sputtering and blips galore, its frenetic pace is almost undecipherable. “Tin” follows similar strands, albeit with an industrial slant. And with all the dysfunctional soundscapes cascading about, Printiig manages to draw us in with the shape-shifting pulse of “Scalar,” its meandering beatwork, and disheveled fizz-fuzz notes. While pretty much all over the place, splattered braindance is unearthed on Interhymns; a bricolage of electronic warfare.
