The Fellow Passenger :: Book of Needlecraft (Point Source Electronic Arts)

While the theme on Book of Needlecraft, and its track titles, are centered around embroidery and needlepoint, the vast electrical tapestry stitched together on this proverbial audio quilt is subtle and warm.

Textured, ambient and glitch veils merge together

Creative electronic sparks aplenty; The Fellow Passenger shatters preconceived notions of glitch bits and measures how far they can actually travel, or in this case, how a talented artist can easily pass multiple threads through the eye of a needle. Opening with the spacious and abstract world of “Border Stitch,” the subtle imperfections and microscopic tentacles are seamlessly wrapped around droning spheres that fade into and out of focus.

As these seven slices bend and contort their way through, the calmer momentum of “Tapes on Pillowcases” reveals that the London-based producer is capable of evolving these strange sound sources, allowing textured, ambient and glitch veils to merge together. While the theme on Book of Needlecraft, and its track titles, are centered around embroidery and needlepoint—something I quite literarily know nothing about—the vast electrical tapestry stitched together on this proverbial audio quilt is subtle and warm. Closing with perhaps the most rhythmic piece of the lot, “Bias Binding” delivers the entire process with an Autechrean fabric, textured yet soft to the touch, we can also find classic Lexaunculpt threads crossing each other in this blissful blips and bleeps textile.
