On Supermassive, the faint sizzling sounds of electro, braindance, and acid mix together in one solid arrangement that’s been in constant rotation.

On Supermassive, the faint sizzling sounds of electro, braindance, and acid mix together in one solid arrangement that’s been in constant rotation. MOY’s distinctive placement of vintage soundscapes and melodic strands is demonstrated in the saccharine opening track “Binary System.” As the harsher percussive onslaught of “Cyg X-1” rushes by with buried and blistering blips and bleeps, the title track delves into bumpier breaks and drill’n bass shades that evoke Squarepusher and The Flashbulb. The ambient electronic bubbles of “Hypernova,” a rhythmic synthesizer data stream saturated with acid, bookends Supermassive as it transports us back a few decades to labels like Worm Interface, Toytronic, and Neo Ouija where delicately crumpled electronics congealed with a powerful melodic backbone.
