Jonny Moy (aka MOY) delivers and delivers with a punch. Four tracks in all, Dark Frontier presents emotive electronics from start to finish. Opening with “Omega Directive,” it’s clear that MOY can extract an infinite amount of synth strands, acid lines, and low-end rumbling beauty. It’s a track that is utterly positive in its creative flow, braindance electronica all rolled up tightly. “Frequency of Creation” glides into a downtempo acidic groove—never far away are the thudding breaks pulling on the heartstrings, such an impacting piece meant for repeated listening. “Rubberbingo3” traverses more robust machinery and still captures serene melodies within its muddy bass line. And to close off such a powerful EP, Moy leaves us with the synth-heavy, blipity blips of “Metreon Cascade,” a smoldering and squelching track that doesn’t let go. Dark Frontier digs deep with the crevasses of early electronic music, casting analog rhythms and timeless vintage sounds.
