One of our favorite mechanized glitch-electronic artists, Marco Simioni, returns with wave_function for Barcelona-based Evel, an imprint that continues pushing fractured, futuristic sound-scrapes from artists across the planet. Simioni digs miles and miles into erratic, densely packed rhythmic DSP-laden structures, shaping minimalist extrusions that echo, bend, and arch. Opener “et II no pt re” feels as though its pulsing tone and abrasive grit could push straight through the cosmos. Corrupted sonic data, indeed.

Simioni works in infinitesimal layers, carefully weaving hypnotic electro-glitch hybrids into shifting forms and textures. Tracks like “yttr flux” and “vinh 49” emerge as broken sonic relics, elastic and stretched to their limits, while “pulse array for dissolving realities (dive mix)” moves through a restrained ambient propulsion, industrial drone filaments threading through the mix like fragments of an unknown message waiting to be deciphered. “ekkot vire” pushes deeper into abstract electronic substructures, constantly expanding, collapsing, and reforming, before “509dualech2211eren” loops through a haze of ambient flutter, surrounding the listener with microscopic details of tone, drone, and white noise.
