Time-stretched audio capsules from the outer edges
Malasomma’s NEOLINGUA elicits captivating atmospheres from the start with sparse arrangements and time-stretched audio capsules from the outer edges. The conventional language known as NEOLINGUA rejects dialects, jargon, and regional identities in favor of a single, uncomplicated, “intelligent” language. Malasomma (also known as Marco Malasomma) produces a soundtrack for this language; featuring skewed audio worlds that ebb and flow, occasionally delivering noisier constructs to heighten the tension. It’s a sonic panoramic to a lost land, perhaps a place that could flourish on its own, starting anew. However, the mechanical/industrial pulse of “RAGE QUITTING” and the more somber echoes of “INFODEMIA” shed a glitchier aural picture just when you might believe the album is a beatless foray—opener “PERMACRISIS” sure does draw us into its auditory mist. In the end, it’s probably best to just plunge in and lose yourself within these surreal avant-garde electrical currents as this record is a challenge to describe in words.
