Recorded in live conditions Rebirth/Omen is an intricate and captivating abstract and darkly meditative release with some liturgical and spiritually-everlasting properties.

Japan has always been an astonishing and effervescent creative cradle engaged in experimental electronic music and adventurous sound abstracts both inside and outside of the ambient-infused scope. In this regard, and for a retrospective perspective, I’d recommend my article: Japanese ambient music :: Minimal environment and zen-inspired sonic sculptures.

l’m not completely familiar with Ayami Suzuki’s sound production but l’ve been connected to some of her releases notably with her appearance on Lontano Series. This new effort—published on the groundbreaking and superb uplifting drone-ambient noise and challenging electronic music label Cloudchamber Recordings—enables to complete my experience. Ayami Suzuki is a young and talented sound artist with a prevailing interest for vocal sound manipulations and aerial-hypnotic minimalist soundscapes; something close to the enveloping spacious moods of Karen Vogt, Ana Roxanne, and Martina Claussen but within a somber direction and a more mesmerizing ominous feeling.

Recorded in live conditions Rebirth/Omen is an intricate and captivating abstract and darkly meditative release with some liturgical and spiritually-everlasting properties. It shifts between gravitational moments of beatific beauty and drifting, ghostly vocal laments, woven together with wistful sounds and soul-crushing drone textures. It delivers two lengthy, detailed, meticulously-crafted and semi-improvised soundscapes, both deeply transportive and seducing thanks to dense and thrilling sound-textures.

The whole package is deeply emotional—partly grieving, delicately reflective, and wrapped in reverbed, spooky-gauzy tones; like reaching out to other worlds or higher spheres connected to Noumenon essences. Highly recommended—a powerful and enchanting electronic album that’s a strong contender for one of the best releases of the year.
