Anderdog :: Kelgoma (Mestnost)

What Anderdog accomplishes here is blissful electronics with a splash of braindance influence and loosened breaks to round off the proceedings.

An enriched palette of musical diversity

There’s something nostalgic, something mystical featured on Kelgoma—its track titles are the words of the Moksha people who historically took up residence to the East of the Capital and in the Nizhny Novgorod lands (Russian Federation) mostly near the Volga River and the Moksha River; a tributary of the Oka River. With that bit of info aside and maybe setting the stage, what Anderdog accomplishes here is blissful electronics with a splash of braindance influence and loosened breaks to round off the proceedings.

The melodic strands of “Ineved” and its flowing beat work, to the fluid sonic acrobatics of “Moksha” and the brittle lullaby clicks’n tones of “Od tol” bring a sense of bewilderment to them. “Lixtaema” exhales with just the right amount of abstract bits, bytes, and instrumental finesse as “Setmoshi” continues with cascading trajectories, ethereal voices, and is a lively soundscape. It all coalesces on Kelgoma—an enriched palette of musical diversity and emotive draw, blending IDM, acid, electronica, and a sense of wonder throughout. We’re glad to have stumbled upon Anderdog (we last heard from him on the excellent Thirteenth Listen compilation on People Can Listen, 2022) and will continue to keep our ears and eyes peeled for more in the pipeline.
