An album that develops over time, with hundreds of abstract sonic components somehow melding together succinctly.
A brisk, percussion-heavy assemblage
Dog Eat Dog (November 2023) by Anderdog is a brisk, percussion-heavy assemblage that spans ten tracks and begins with the drum-heavy single “There Are No Streets.” The title track is a downtempo slice of life with a laid-back beat and wind instruments that sound joyful and nostalgic. The album remains chilled to the touch, and yet, as it progresses, tracks like “Punx Not Dead” feature eroded voices creeping into the mix, glitch and crunch tones, and a forceful composition that finally develops with a laid-back drum and bass and acidic rhythm. With this expansive sound collection, Anderdog manages to knock us flat. “35” features glitch’n breaks and acid-braindance notes, while “DreAks” transports familiar melodic abstracts into darker tones while maintaining its instrumental flair. An album that develops over time, with hundreds of abstract sonic components somehow melding together succinctly.
