Kokokei :: Mandarin EP (Mestnost)

Calm electronics and deliciously intoxicating slow-motion vignettes.

Soul-satisfying, low-flying beats

Kokokei’s Mandarin is composed of five tracks that alternate between introspective and downtempo aural patterns and are at once brittle and melodic, calm and clear starting with “Mandarin One.” “Mandarin Three” maintains a sweet acid-glitch rhythm and ethereal (Kirsty Hawkshaw-like) vocal swell that underscores the EP’s expressive flair throughout. Mandarin is a sincere collection of soul-satisfying, low-flying beats as “Mandarin Four” reveals technoid slivers that reverberate throughout the celestial sky.

Each limited edition cassette comes with a mandarin leaf, which is both a physical reminder of that mountain community and a message from the past. Calm electronics and deliciously intoxicating slow-motion vignettes. Recommended for fans of Arovane, Bola, and Biosphere.
