Crisp and crunchy acid swirls inhabit Straight from the Void (Pt. 1), the first EP of three as Adrien d’Elzius breaks through rugged electronic sound space with “Witch’s kiss” and the mesmerizing pulse’n flicker of “Half woman, half child.” The myriad of deconstructed rhythms and off-kilter beats is utterly engulfing as “Love is a dog from hell” tones it down with Fennesz-like dissipating synth noises until it eventually implodes, collapsing breaks and bleeps surrounded by strange voices. Creative sparks from all angles, sound design and acid lines meander in the darkness on “Down the rabbit’s hole” as the cinematic sonic treasure trove of “Untie the knots” blissfully closes with sharpened downtempo glitch and emotive slivers. Straight from the Void (Pt. 1) is a powerful EP of densely packed electronics from a true sound-smith of the scene and we’re looking forward to the next two chapters. Fans of Mantle of Gets as well as old-school Gescom, Jega, Cylob, and Funkstörung should take notice.
