After a decade standing at the head of the cinematic and gothic-infused ambient project Day Before Us, sound artist Philippe Blache is back with a new album published under his own name. Neglecting the semi-classical music tendency of his past releases, The Ever Sounding Sea Of Grief delivers frozen sculptures of electronic ambient where bleakness, austerity and sublimity rise from a grainy, tumultuous and rumbling sea of noises, drones and textures. The orchestration is eloquent and massive, sometimes with emanation of acoustic piano perpetuum and majestic then apocalyptic church organ patterns. The otherworldly timelessness of the album is occasionally punctuated by poetical narratives emotionally incarnated by Olga Gabris. Underlying themes are centered around theosophical archetypes, inner thoughts, existential desperation, and the search for spiritual wisdom. Once more, the photographic aspect of the album is elegantly elaborated thanks to a durable artistic partnership with Natalie Ina. This album marks a new creative phase in Philippe Blache’s original music journey.
