Splintered beats galore
With 3033, Mert Büyüksağnak (also known as Consul) makes a strong debut breakcore and braindance collection, tearing through the speakers with splintered beats galore. While “TOI 700 D (with Vixten)” carves a sharp path, albeit with an increasingly sinister edge, the title track stands up to the plate with a ferocity of spastic drum’n bass and broken jungle/techno. Acidic waves surge forward on “2001” as its adjacent and fractured counterparts teeter on the brink, while “SUPERLUMINAL TRAVEL,” with Photek-infused beat patterns, has enough momentum to keep a locomotive running at full speed. Despite how exhausting these tracks might appear, “XYZZY” closes with what may be the brightest of them all—featuring crushed percussive experiments cutting through glitches that even Squarepusher might find difficult to follow. If it wasn’t apparent already, 3033 is devoted to Earth’s ghastly future—as well as being inspired by Half-Life 2 and Quake—delivering scorched electronic mayhem with no intentions of turning back.
3033 is available on Bandcamp.
