As the Spring draws in, the music keeps flowing here at WE FORFEIT. For this month, we have a label we love. We have Gated Recordings. Founded in 2019 by DJ Node and Jadey Smith, Gated has become an imprint of serious intent in the world of electronic music.
In the dim corridors of experimental electronic music, where industrial textures fuse with ambient drift and fractured rhythm, a quiet evolution is unfolding. Circuitry and Shadows explores six compelling releases that blur genre lines, weaving metallic atmospheres, glitch-laden pathways, and modular pulses into dense, emotive audio collages. These works, drawn from visionary labels and artists, don’t just coexist—they resonate, forming a shared current within the shadowy stream of industrial-leaning ambient electronics.

Aesthetically, although beatless, this new work TIME is an ambitious break from ambient music’s associations with the wellness industry, or any connection to environmental music, a sound that is Post-Ambient, leaving faded glimpses of stylistic references.
Sometimes what comes in a flash unfolds over a long period of time. Such a flash came to Silent Records label founder Kim Cascone one winter night as a kid. “I remember sitting in a snowbank and looking up at the stars. I spotted the blue star in the Orion constellation and gazed at it for a long time. Suddenly I had a flash, like one of those speed-collages in a film where hundreds of events all race past in a split second. I call this ‘my download’ & have been unpacking its meaning ever since.”
We don’t have enough Dada in this world of too much data. Something is needed to break-through the over-curated simulacrum that is the online world in order to let in a bit of non-artificial light. One way to make a break is through the deliberate cultivation of the glitch.
Ultimately, For LA Vol. 1 & For LA Vol. 2 are more than just impressive collections of ambient works. They are a heartfelt response to tragedy, amplifying the voices of artists who use sound to bring comfort and aid. This release is not just worth a listen—it’s worth supporting, as every note carries the weight of healing and hope for a city in need.
