This new project follows a stylistic inclination inspired by primordial resonances and natural manifestations from peripheral zones deserted by humanity.

Sonorous and spacious looped fragments
BlackHazr is the new deep sound art project of Pedro Maras (sound architect behind the experimental, concrete noise and sampladelic project BedouinDrone). Like in projects such as Muslimgauze and a few names signed by Staalplaat, Pedro Maras dedicates his creative talent and sound signature to culturally engaged causes, using music, an avant-garde position and technical devices to encourage a counter model or a political vision of resistance against war, oppression, hegemony and imperialism, notably in a time of troubling situations and collective dramas which occur in the Middle East. As an anthropologist preoccupied with the preservation of cultural diversity and as a critic of globalist ideologies, those topics particularly resonate with me.
BedouinDrone used to operate musically as a syncretism between minimalism and post-industrial music, melting together articulated noises, ominous and hypnotic textural sequences with sampled traditional instrumentation in a sense of acoustic ritualistic effervescence. This new project follows a stylistic inclination inspired by primordial resonances and natural manifestations from peripheral zones deserted by humanity.

Upper states of consciousness ::
BlackHazr appears to be a darkened, fervent and initiatic musical experience, guiding the listener to mysterious, otherworldly terrains. Undulating bass frequencies, languid drone motifs, sonorous and spacious looped fragments interact with cinematic microtonal noises and very occasional metallic percussive patterns (such as in the truly lysergic and spooky « Ruina »).
This album is like wandering at the border of a bleak vortex: a tremendous and foreboding sound travel with rare moments of light, mostly built on strange ethereal and reverbed invocations. The emotional and musical immersion is worth being considered for those who enjoy oblique atmospheres, eroded contemplative beauty, upper states of consciousness and black tales in relationship with sovereign nature.
Those brooding, opaque, tellurian, meditative excursions and sensory electronic abstractions are also highly recommended for fans of Olhon (Skinhole), Lustmord (Dark Matter), Murcof (Cosmos), Zoviet France, Sabled Sun, Maeror Tri, and Aube (at its most ambient-ish moments). To my humble opinion, we’ll have to count on this one among the best albums of the year. It is produced and distributed by the continuously excellent, surprising and challenging Mahorka.
BlackHazr is available on Mahorka. [Bandcamp]
