A striking industrial tone
As the state of our planet gets ever-closer to irreparable damage, Asshole Galaxy (aka Weldroid and Abdicant jointly working together) lay it all out on the line and express themselves on Irreparable Damage. “Two angry artists really mad at all the assholes ruining the world, channeling some music through,” is an understatement as Irreparable Damage sets a striking industrial tone. Their (justified) frustration is in full force, and there’s not much holding them back as Mahorka opens the flood gates for the duo to explore their conjoined sonic mechanisms. And what a feat it is; scorched and decomposed beat patches, rugged rhythmic jolts, and fluid substructures encompass these nine pieces front to back. It’s simply baffling.
From the dark alleys of “Swamp Growth” and its sinister growl hinting at the continuous filthy swamp worldwide politicians swim within, to the gritty opening track (“Asshole Galaxy”)—that perhaps best states the chaotic mess we’re in—features claustrophobic drums, exhausting melodic swells, and a lively punch to the gut, setting the tone with this auditory manifesto.
As the album expands and contracts, the duo embarks on darker industrial strains. “Demons” penetrates the soul, ripping apart a slow moving percussive beast with a wide-angled panoramic lens. With dark ambient motifs galore, closure (“Magic Missle” [sic]) delivers an eerie sandblasted smorgasbord of all that’s come before, letting us know that perhaps there’s a glimpse of light at the end of this collapsing tunnel if we collectively work together and reach for it.
